The MWENDO program had a complicated set of actors and multiple activity components. Each actor had unique information needs, communication preferences, education levels, and a role to play. Simultaneously, the program was heavily structured around and required to achieve and track pre-determined benchmarks. It was clear custom support materials and carefully designed processes would be needed.

Picture Impact worked as a long-term (two years) design partner to walk alongside program development and implementation, designing in response to field needs and priorities. Regular site visits, attendance at PEPFAR events, and co-designing activities with staff across the program kept Picture Impact apprised of design needs. We kept busy responding to implementation challenges, bringing forward the work of an illustrator, graphic designer, and behavior change design to create support materials.

A suite of over a dozen print products were available at the end of the consultancy. Our picture-based tools, are being used by households to increase family engagement in case management. Our job aides, case planning and assessment tools for community health volunteers (CHV) ease workload, streamline data generation & collection, and increase CHV effectiveness. Implementation of tools is supported with an interactive train the trainer model and planned coordination and integration of M&E indicators.
